The Chicago Cubs’ acquisition of Edward Cabrera has made the National League more competitive, leaving the New York Mets in a position where they need to make a significant move. According to Fansided’s Christopher Kline, the Mets should consider signing two-time All-Star and 2022 World Series champion Framber Valdez as their new ace.
Valdez had a record of 13-11, an ERA of 3.66, 187 strikeouts, and a WHIP of 1.245 over 192 innings pitched in the past season. Although his overall performance was affected by a trade deadline breakdown, he was impressive before that, posting a record of 11-4, a 2.62 ERA, and 141 strikeouts.
Kline believes that despite underlying concerns about Valdez’s secondary pitches and attitude, he is a reliable choice for the Mets. Valdez is projected to receive a six-year, $199 million deal, which could be worth it for the Mets as he would be their ace for the next two-to-three years, allowing pitching prospects like Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong to develop into aces.
The Mets need to make a move to replace superstar losses like Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz. Pursuing Valdez immediately would be a smart decision, as he would bring much-needed talent to the team and help them remain competitive in the National League.
