How I Hit $48K a Month With AI While Working Full Time and Raising Three Kids

I remember sitting in my car after getting laid off from a startup I’d poured 14-hour days into. I was their top producer. The CEO loved me. And then one day, they just let me go. Restructuring, they said.
That feeling — that sickening realization that someone else held my income basket — never left me. So when AI came along, I didn’t treat it like a fun toy. I treated it like my escape hatch.
I was working full time as a sub-regional manager, managing 25 people and handling a $50 million account. I’m a mom of three. I have no technical background whatsoever. My degree is in political science, and I spent over a decade in sales and marketing.
But I knew one thing: I could not let my financial security depend on one employer ever again. That startup taught me a hard lesson. Even if you’re the best performer in the company, you’re replaceable. The gains you create go to shareholders and investors, not to you.
So I made a decision. I would use AI to diversify my income. Not replace my job. Just build a safety net that I controlled.
And six months later, I generated $48,000 in a single month. Here’s exactly how I broke it down.
I’ll be honest with you. I knew nothing about AI automation when I started. Nothing. I had used ChatGPT to chat, sure. But workflows? Automations? AI SEO? Totally foreign territory.
Here’s what I did anyway. I went to Upwork and applied for AI-related positions I had no business applying for. Anything with “AI” or “automation” in the description, I applied.
Then I asked ChatGPT to teach me everything I needed to know. I faked it until I made it — and then I actually made it.
My first client came in for $3,000 a month for AI blog automation and SEO services. The work was chaotic at first. I hired people to help, and honestly, they didn’t know what they were doing either. But the company kept paying me.
Here’s what I learned about why it worked: business owners don’t need you to have all the answers upfront. They need communication. They need you to ask clarifying questions, understand what they’re trying to accomplish, and then figure it out. Problem-solving skills transfer across every industry.
I kept improving the workflow, eventually using Claude Code to fix and automate the entire process in just two days. When the client saw the improvement, I asked for a raise. They now pay me $5,500 monthly.
Services are great for fast cash and learning what people actually need. They’re not the easiest to scale, and the income isn’t recurring. But as a starting point, they’re perfect. You learn the landscape, build confidence, and generate revenue while you figure out your next move.
I knew from years of content creation that a personal brand is one of the biggest differentiators you can have. Back in 2018, I grew a channel teaching Spanish to Korean speakers to 550,000 followers across three platforms.
But here’s the thing — that channel barely made money. I was creating content for free and getting burned out. It took me six to eight hours to edit a two-minute video. I was dancing on camera, pulling stuffed animals into frame, doing everything except being myself.
This time around, I did it differently.
In late December, I started a new channel focused on AI. I copied what was working from other creators — not their words, but their format. I studied their titles, their thumbnail patterns, their hooks. Then I made it my own with my personal story.
The strategy worked. My channel went from 200 subscribers to 10,000 in under a month. One video about automating my social media content with Claude Code absolutely took off.
The lesson? Being original is overrated. Being authentic is powerful. Copying the format that works while injecting your own experience — that’s exactly what the biggest creators on the planet do.
I stopped spending six hours editing videos. Instead, I built a system. I analyzed outlier videos from other creators, extracted their patterns, and generated my own versions. The hook, the thumbnail, the structure — I borrowed all of it. What I didn’t borrow was my story. That was mine.
This approach cut my content creation time by more than half.
Once my channel had traction, inbound sponsorship requests started rolling in. Just this month, I landed multiple sponsorship deals worth $3,500, $3,500, $5,000, $5,500, and $6,000 each.
That alone added $23,000 to my monthly income.
You don’t need millions of subscribers to get sponsorships. Companies want engaged audiences in specific niches. AI content is hot right now, and brands are paying well to reach people who are actively learning and experimenting.
I didn’t chase sponsorships. I focused on creating valuable, specific content. The inbound requests came naturally after my channel hit a few key growth milestones. Companies saw the engagement and reached out. That’s a much better position than cold pitching.
One of the biggest mindset shifts I made was building an audience first, then creating a product. In the past, I’d try to create products and then force marketing. This time, I watched what people kept asking for in my content and built exactly that.
After sharing how I analyzed other creators’ videos to improve my own content, people kept asking me how I did it. So I used Claude Code to build an app called the Creator Studio. It analyzes outlier videos, extracts title patterns, thumbnails, and hooks, and helps you generate your own personalized version.
My original version was built for myself. Then I realized others wanted it too. So I started charging for it. It generated $2,000 this month alone.
This is the opposite of what most people do. Typically, someone builds a product and then desperately tries to market it. I flipped that. I created content, built trust, observed the questions people asked, and built a product that answered those questions. The demand existed before the product did.
Finally, I launched a low-ticket paid community for private memberships. That brought in $6,200 this month.
I launched it with almost no content inside. I just had a feeling — you need to do this now, Sandy. So I did. People started joining. Some thought it was a scam because there was nothing in there yet. I just kept telling them, “I’m working on it, I promise.”
Why charge anything at all? Because a free community attracts people who aren’t serious. A low-ticket price filters for people who are committed. And it also helps fund the time I need to create the content they’re asking for.
I genuinely love helping people. But one-on-one help isn’t scalable. A paid community lets me serve more people while ensuring the members are invested in the process. When there’s a financial commitment, people show up differently.
Here’s every number from that $48,000 month:
That’s six income streams. Four of them barely existed six months ago.
The biggest difference between my past failures and this success comes down to a few mindsets.
First, the market timing. I tried Amazon FBA, dropshipping, and Etsy — all saturated markets where I was chasing past success stories. AI is different. We’re early. Only a small fraction of the world has actually used tools like ChatGPT, let alone Claude Code. The opportunity is real and now.
Second, I stopped chasing trends. The moment I got stressed about every new AI tool someone mentioned on Twitter, I fell behind. The fastest way to not execute is to constantly chase the next shiny thing. I picked one tool — Claude Code — learned it deeply, and built real things with it.
Third, I forced myself into action with stakes. Once clients were paying me and sponsorships were scheduled, I had to deliver. I created a system and I executed. My goal was simple: just keep moving forward.
Look, the AI space is loud. Everyone’s pushing the next tool, the next update, the next framework. I learned to tune most of it out. I followed a handful of creators I trusted, but I didn’t try to learn everything. I just did something. Action beats perfection every time.
Do I need a technical background to do this?
No. I have zero technical background. My degree is in political science and I spent 10 years in sales. I asked ChatGPT to teach me what I needed to know and then I learned by doing.
How do I start if I have a full-time job and kids?
One step at a time. Some nights I slept only three hours, but I focused on consistent small progress. Compare yourself to where you were yesterday, not to some distant end goal. That’s how you avoid burnout.
Is it too late to get into AI?
No. Most people still haven’t used AI at all. The window of opportunity is wide open right now. It won’t stay that way forever, but at this moment, the gap between awareness and skill is huge.
What was your first paying client?
I found them on Upwork. I applied for AI SEO consulting work with no experience, used ChatGPT to learn the basics, and landed a $3,000 monthly retainer that eventually grew to $5,500.
Should I start with services or products?
Services first. They’re great for fast cash and learning what people actually need. Then use those insights to build a product. That’s what I did with my app — I saw the demand in my audience before I built a thing.
How do you handle content creation efficiently?
I use AI tools to analyze successful videos, generate hooks and titles, and even help with thumbnails and scripts. What used to take six to eight hours now takes a fraction of that time.
